Indonesia is a multicultural country that has a tradition, ethnic and cultural diversity. Recognizing that the people of Indonesia consists of several religions and many tribes are very diverse, and embrace life it is necessary to form a pluralist alternative education as a student of character formation is a form of education that is trying to keep the culture of a society and move it to the next generation, growing will values, foster friendship among students of diverse ethnic, racial, and religious, develop mutual understanding, as well as seek openness. Multicultural education as an approach to education is considered appropriate for the Indonesian nation heterogeneous. Multicultural education illustrate the issues and problems of multicultural education .. Based on this, it is important for educational institutions in the multi-cultural society to teach peace, tolerance and conflict resolution as in multicultural education. Because education is still believed to have a major role in shaping the character of each individual who dididiknya. Multicultural education is the process of planting a way of life respect, sincere, and tolerant of diversity of cultures living in the midst of a pluralistic society. With multicultural education, expected their mental strength and flexibility of the nation faced a conflict of social conflict, so that national unity is maintained. Multicultural education (multicultural education) is a response to the development of the diversity of the school population, as demanded equal rights for each group. And broadly multicultural education that includes all students regardless of their groups such as gender, ethnic, racial, cultural, religious and social strata. If the goal of fostering human character education as a whole, it must include the dimensions of the spiritual, moral, social, emotional, intellectual, aesthetic and physical. But in reality, the process of education we are still a lot of emphasis on cognitive aspects alone, so that learners do not develop into a complete human being. Based on this fact, the existence of multicultural education as an educational strategy that is applied to all kinds of subjects, it is necessary by using the cultural differences that exist. And the most important in multicultural education is a teacher or lecturer is not only required to master and is able to professionally teach subjects or subjects that are taught. Moreover, an educator must also be able to instill core values of multicultural education such as democracy, humanism, and pluralism or instill the values of diversity in students
